Chili Ristras and Coxsackievirus

Yesterday we drove up to Ruiodoso, NM for our yearly search for the perfect ristra to hang on our front patio. Red chilis are in such abundance in NM that they are actually used for decorative purposes... strung together and hung outside. I much prefer my red chili this way.... too hot when used with cooking. and no, we weren't with the 15,000 other people herding to see Sarah Palin in Roswell - although I have a much greater respect for hockey moms. Too bad there's no hockey in the SW) Green chili isn't too bad (not as hot as Red), and it's full of vitamin C. I'm just never sure what to put it in. All the grocery stores have buckets of green chilis with roasters outside ready to roast them for you. A very notable scent (the roasting of chilis), which everyone here equates with 'fall'. :) Last week Joshua got his second day-care illness (woohoo!!!) Only working 2 days a week, and his immune system is getting my money's worth. Came home with a fever on Wednesdsay and refusing to eat- evidently had spots on his throat and his hands.... viral Hand, Foot, Mouth disease. I think he made up for all the ounces of milk he passed up for 3 days - woke up starving twice during the night all weekend and is feeling much better. And we found out he LOVES avacado!!! mix in some bananas... mmmmm... Southwest bananas? lol

Drool, Toe Jam, and Spit Up

These are a few of my favorite things... :) So, so much for posting - like 10 months ago. So, I was 4 mo. pregnant at our last post... and Joshua's now 4 months old- to the day!! After going to my 10 year college reunion last weekend - realized how behind I was on keeping in touch, blogging - and Facebook. Still figuring that one out. But have found tons of friends that disappeared during the late 90's diaspora. :) Or maybe I'm just a hermit. That lives in the desert. So, this week I attempted his first feed - he's been waking up around 4 am (had been sleeping 10+ hours at night WOOHOO) starving hungry. So maybe this will help? we'll see... more like a messy culinary experiment. Doesn't seem to like it. He's also started drooling... no signs of any teeth yet, but I found this website to make a drool bib and found some gore-tex fabric on ebay for almost free.... my mom created some stylish bibs for Joshua- that WORK wonderfully!! No more soaked chest. I'll have to take a picture of him in them. super cute. And on drool... I must admit that the literature that states that this time in Joshua's life is quite frequently the most pleasant for the family dog- SO true. licked up his face, will be glad to clean the floors in the future... quite helpful. And of course loves to give kisses. Good Moose. So, about Toe Jam. How do babies get toe jam? That's my question for the day. I'm on call this weekend for 48 hrs straight, so I think I'm going to head to bed early tonight.
